What makes me me

I came to the U.S. from Germany at the age of 20. That was in 1996. After four years of going to college in Southern California, I graduated and moved to Virginia for two years. While living in Virginia, I got into Flash.

In 2002 I moved from Virginia to San Francisco, where I have lived since. In San Francisco I got even more into Flash, which resulted in me getting hired by Macromedia, the company who makes Flash. Because I was so into Flash, I enjoyed a little bit of fame in the Flash community. I even spoke at a conference or two.

After speaking at my first tech conference in 2004, I experienced a moment of "Now what? I feel like I have done it all." It was the perfect example of getting something you thought you wanted and not feeling all that satisfied.

I was feeling unsatisfied and depressed for most of 2004. In January 2005 I decided to become psychic and took some workshops. The workshops opened my eyes and made me realize that I had to leave my 9-5 job. It took me a while to gather enough courage to actually take that step, but when Macromedia became Adobe in December of 2005, I said my good-byes. I also started a new website, Dragonfly Psychic.

I know now that I don't want to work for somebody else anymore, and I don't want to work a 9-5 schedule. I am currently making a living without feeling like I'm working. This doesn't mean that I am lazy; it just means that I do things for a living that are fun. Here are some of the things I am doing now:

  • Driving a taxi
  • Doing psychic readings and counseling sessions
  • Doing crystal ball psychic readings at events
  • Creating online Psychic Wishes™
  • Working on getting some books published
  • Translating. I'm bilingual in German and English and would love to translate children's books, or other fun stuff. No insurance policies or Viagra marketing materials though.
  • Writing. I LOVE writing about insecurities. Want to hire me to write a column about insecurities? Please do.
  • Taking pictures. I love taking pictures, especially of places and things in San Francisco. Want to send me out there to take some pictures for you or your business? I'm not available to shoot weddings, but I am available to run all over town for you and shoot that. Plus, I just bought a Nikon D50, so that makes me a professional photographer, yo.
  • Painting
  • Hooping. Two friends and I started hooping.org in 2003.

For the first time in my life I feel like I have figured out how to live.
