The little things

I have been very fortunate lately in that whenever I'm having a bad day or a bad week, the universe puts together a special task force to help me ease out of my misery. Within the last twenty-four hours, that task force consisted of, in order of appearance:

- a friend on the phone being so descriptive about how crowded the subway was that I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face. Boy, did that feel good.
- getting an email from a friend I hadn't seen in months that ended with "see you on the 9th?"
- opening a package from my mom containing lots of chocolate and a photocopy of an article I co-wrote that was recently published in a German magazine
- my roommate Joe telling me about this girl that was "totally sweatin'" him at a concert the night before
- spotting a cute guy in my office building and an hour later being introduced to him as the latest addition to the-company-I-work-for

the article I co-wrote for Internet Professionell magazine

A shooting

650 King Street

Around 2pm today, I received the following email at work:

To all San Francisco employees:

Please stay in the building and away from 650 King Street Garage. There are reports of gun shots and police are on the scene.

The 650 King Street Garage is across the street from my building. Later somebody sent around a short article with more detail on what went down.

Caught in the Act

Getting Freaky in December:
1
2
3

My friend Dana, who I love dearly, was caught, too. And Akasha, who hosts the shamanic trance dances I have been going to.

There is another Get Freaky party tonight. I can't wait!

Hooping for Palestine?

On Saturday I went to the anti-war protest in Dolores Park. Amy had suggested that we hoop there, so I went.

Today my friend Brian emailed me a link to Everyone for Palestine. It looks like somebody took a bunch of pictures at the protest and then labelled them in a very Palestine-centric way. Look for me under "Hula-Hoopers for Palestine." Dude, I was hooping for Peace.

I just had to point this out

Today I am exactly the same age as my mom was when she had me! She is now exactly twice my age. [Note: I am nowhere near ready to have children though.]

Today is also the spring equinox.

It's a day of celebration.

Feeling funky

I'm in a little bit of a funk again. So thank God for the JIT shamanic trance dance tomorrow night!

Tears

Ever since I had my vision surgically corrected, I have been using these eye drops several times a day. Sometimes when I try to put a drop into one of my eyes, I miss and the drop ends up on my face somewhere. Sometimes it even runs down my cheek. Whenever that happens, I instantly feel sad and start pouting. Just the physical feeling of a drop of liquid running down your cheek makes you sad by association. Very curious.

Ten

Today is the ten year anniversary of the day my first love and I hung out for the first time. It was a Friday. His name was Brent. We went to Toys'R'Us and then climbed some rocks, told each other that we smelled good and kissed.

New office

So, I have moved into my new cubicle in my new building on my new team. The building is next door to the building I was in before. My new office is on the fifth floor and has a great view. Note that the view is not from my cubicle itself, but from the general area in which my cubicle is located. It's pretty nice.

My new team is pretty small. On that small team are a girl with pink hair and a guy with blue hair.

Peter hoops

When Peter was in town for Flash Forward last week, I made him come to our hoopers' gathering on Sunday. About a minute before we had to leave, he finally picked up a hoop and started hooping. He pretended that he was really bored even though he clearly was not.

And here he is attempting to juggle with three hoops. That's one I hadn't seen before.

Anyway, Peter is gone now. I had to cut hooping short on Sunday to take him to the airport. I miss him already. There is never a dull moment with Peter. I don't know what happened: A year ago he was just another one of those Flash celebrities I never thought would talk to me. And now we are really, really good friends.

It's official: 20/20

I went to my regular eye doctor again today, almost two months after having my eye balls sliced open. And here is what's new: I have 20/20 vision. And the coolest thing about that is that my eyes are still in the process of adjusting. There is a chance my vision could get even better.

Flash Forward recap

The Flash Forward conference ended on Friday. I took some pictures.

The thing about Flash Forward was that my friend Kristin was one of the speakers. Kristin is also in her ninth month of pregnancy. There was a chance that she would give birth before or during the conference. In that case I would have done her presentation in her stead. But luckily, the baby stayed inside for now, and I didn't have to fill in for her.

Quick update

Lots of things have been going on, which is why I have been too busy to update.

1. The Flash Forward 2004 conference is happening in San Francisco right now, and I am hanging out with fellow geeks 24-7.
2. My friend Peter from London flew into town for Flash Forward at the last minute.
3. I met a boy.

More on all of this later!
